Family Days Out near Glasgow
Strong Man at Calderglen Country Park 2010
Glasgow is a beautiful city situated on the banks of the River Clyde and is not just Scotland’s largest city but also the third largest in the U.K! There is a lot to see and do in the city centre itself and much cultural heritage to visit and explore but there is just as much to see outside the city outskirts as well that is so often forgotten about.
For a really cracking family day out that’s lots of fun, a visit to M&D’s theme park is an absolute must. The park has 5 terrifying white knuckle rides, designed especially to leave you weak at the knees, and a whole host of other attractions to keep younger children occupied also. From Amazonia, Scotland’s only tropical rain forest, to Glow In The Dark bowling, Crazy Golf and over 20 child-friendly rides, the park is set upon 20 acres of Strathclyde Country Park and is only 9 miles out of Glasgow city centre.
If animals are more your thing, then World Of Wings boasts Scotland’s largest collection of birds of prey, housing, as it does, around 80 birds. As well as Raptors, the centre also features parrots and other exotic birds and is renowned for its fantastic flying demonstrations along with its dedication to conservation and protection; often helping to rehabilitate injured birds of prey, ready to release back into the wild. World Of Wings is situated around 13 miles outside of Glasgow and is easily reached should you decide to hire a car during your stay in or around the city.
Another place ideal for the kids is The Adventure Planet indoor play area which is all based around a space theme across three exciting adventure zones, all designed with different ages in mind. There is a 20 ft vertical drop slide for those brave enough to try it and lots of soft-play activities for younger children, including a cafe that is ideally situated for refreshment and offers a wide variety of healthy and tasty food from a varied menu. Adventure Planet can be found 10 miles out of Glasgow.
Finally, just 8 miles away from Glasgow city centre can be found Calderglen Country Park. This park boasts a very popular children’s zoo with a wide array of animals, both a toddlers and older children’s adventure play area and beautiful gardens that feature exotic tropical displays and plants from all across the world. Entrance to the Park is free and there are lots of events hosted there throughout the year that visitors can attend and take part in. An ideal place to visit, here there is something for everyone!
